Can I recycle compostable dog poop bags in my worm farm
(Cape Town and Radevormwald)
dog poop processor
I am considering to start a Dog poop worm farm in addition to our existing compost heap.
We want to stop throwing dog poop into our garbage bin and would rather recycle it.
While I was thinking about the subject I wondered if it would be possible to recycle the dog poop in commercially available compostable dog poop bags?
Or can those bags only be composted in large Composting units.
I would be very grateful for any information you could supply.
Kind regards Theara
thank you very much for your interesting question.
We have successful recycled our dog poop for nearly 15 years now using the "pet poop processors from Global Worming."
In general terms worms can eat any material that is of organic origin. As we often say in worm composting circles „Anything that once was alive and is now dead can be potentially be used as food for compost worms.„
So if your dog poop bags are 100% compostable they should as well make a good worm food and could be recycled in a worm farm as long as they don’t have to go through the heat process that is usually associated with the composting process.
Another point to consider is to find out if the dog poop bags are pH neutral. Worms don’t like their living environment to acidic! So if the bags are more or less pH neutral you should be able to use them in your worm farm to recycle your dog poop.
Once you have tried it out it would be great if you could let us know about your results.
