MeineKompostwürmer verschwinden aus dem Komposthaufen!?

Letztes Jahr habe ich 500 Kompostwürmer in meinen 3 Komposthaufen (frisch, einmal gewendet und fertig gesiebte Areale), habe die Komposthaufen ringsum gegen Wurm-Flucht und Amsel-Klau mit Teppichrasen versehen. Die Würmer haben gute Arbeit geleistet aber im Herbst waren praktisch null Würmer zu finden.
Sterben sie alle aus? Sind sie etwa gegen Vermehrung bestrahlt, oder welche Erklärung hätten Sie?
Die Komposthaufen werden immer feucht gehalten, ich habe nur Organisches hinzugefügt.
Ich bin ratlos.
