Pile of worms ready for sale

My husband was just affected by the massive oil field layoffs. Our housing cost is $2000/ mo. We have enough income for a couple of months. Can we make enough money with worms to cover the housing costs???

ANSWER:

Hello Lisa, I am sorry to hear that your husband has lost his work. I have been in this position myself many years ago and can identify with the pain and insecurities that are often followed by such a dramatic incident.

Worm composting and the worm industry is quite a big business sector in the United States and if the marketing is done well there should be plenty of business you should be able to tap into.

The set up costs for a worm business can be very low as my book states and you can multiply the worms rapidly if you need to do so.

There are many markets that you can approach when you are entering the worm business industry.

There are for example:

- The recycling industry (offer to recycle organic waste for clients)

- supply nurseries and garden stores with worms and worm farms.

- supply fishing clubs and fishing stores with bait worms.

- offer recycling solutions for hotels, corporates, schools, guest houses... which you can offer to service as well...

- approach owners of horses and offer solutions to recycle horse manure into nutrient rich worm castings...

The above possible markets are just the tip of the iceberg. If you put your mind to it you can come up with plenty more ideas to generate an income with earthworms.

One of our largest market was for many years the domestic earthworm market. Many private households are keen recyclers and want to improve their garden soils with worm castings that have been produced in their own worm farms from kitchen- and garden waste their families produce at home.

So yes, there are lots of ways to generate an income with worms.

I believe it is always up to us to make the best of opportunities that have been presented to us.

Dear Lisa I am wishing you and your husband all the best for the future and hope you will start and run a flourishing worm composting business in no time.

Kind regards
